We at Casa Maria have gotten to know a grupo de young people from Barrio Centro who are passionate about growing their own food, defending their barrio, and preserving their roots and culture.
Last week Casa Maria workers were invited to see the garden of Dora Martinez and Tito Romero (from Flowers and Bullets).
We were allowed to take our kids, my daughter went with us, Amalia Tovar went also and she took her daughter Zaira Tovar.
It was an interesting experience to know how we can produce our own vegetables at home in our garden and most importantly how healthy they are without pesticides!
My daughter and I couldn’t believe how easy it is to make homemade fertilizer.
Our daughters were fascinated with the goats and the information about how long they are pregnant, and the age they have to be so as to be ready to be… birria.
We didn’t know how healthy it is to use their milk and the different ways goats can be used for soap, cheese, etc.
Thank you Dora and Tito for this important and necessary information, we look forward to working with you in the future.

CASA MARIA VISITO A FLOWER AND BULLETS (BARRIO CENTRO)

Casa María conoció un grupo de jóvenes de Barrio Centro que son apasionados por cultivar su propia comida, y defender su barrio, y conservar sus raíces, su cultura.
La semana pasada los trabajadores de Casa María fueron invitados a conocer el jardín de Dora Martínez y Tito Romero (de Flowers and Bullets) y podíamos llevar a nuestros hijos; yo lleve a mi hija de 15 años y Amalia Tovar llevo a su hija Zaira Tovar. Fue una experiencia muy hermosa e interesante saber cómo podemos cosechar nuestros propias verduras en nuestros jardines, y lo saludable que son sin pesticidas!
Nos sorprendió mucho a mi hija y a mi saber como hacer el abono para las verduras hecho en casa, es impresionante que fácil y sencillo es.
Nuestras hijas estaban impresionadas con las chivas, y la información del tiempo que duran preñadas, de la edad que deben de tener para estar listas para ser birria.
Tampoco sabíamos lo saludable que es la leche de chiva y las diferentes formas que se puede usar; jabón, queso, etc.
Gracias Dora y Tito por esa información tan importante y necesaria, estamos buscando la oportunidad de trabajar con ustedes en un futuro.
